Winston and Trevor’s Duke Mansion engagement party was an absolute treat to behold. The Duke Mansion is by far one of my favorite venues in Charlotte, mostly due to the fact that it has an effortless old world charm that is seldom seen in the greater Charlotte area.

Zack and Sarah were married last weekend and while we were faced with lots of rain for the wedding day, we had a gorgeous summer’s evening to photograph their engagement session. Wing Haven Gardens, as always, was a magical backdrop for their engagement session.
Zack and Sarah have an exuberance about them that is infectious. Their affection for one another is exciting to photograph and it made them all the easier to photograph. Photo captured at Wing Haven Gardens in Charlotte, NC.
I love family portraits. Being a father myself, I have come to enjoy photographing them even more. A family is one of the most precious things we can have and to be able to capture the interaction between parents and children is amazing. I find this doubly so with a newborn baby. Jay and Jess have been waiting for their own little one for many years and to see their faces light up with joy and adoration for their little girl is something that moved me very deeply. She is one that they have been praying and yearning for for so long that, to have that part of their lives fulfilled, not only brings a profound gladness to them but to those who know them dearly. Jay and Jess, congratulations on your little girl and thank you for allowing me to be there while you celebrated your newfound blessing.
I just love Jay and Jess’ admiration of their little one. You can feel how appreciative and excited they are to have such a sweet little girl.
This week’s story is about Jay and Jess, two marvelous people I have known for over a decade now. Their little one has been a long time coming and I am so pleased to share photos that we took a couple months ago after they just adopted her.
Working with Jessie, of The Cookie Cult, was a highlight of this year. She is so open to crazy ideas and brings her own to the table as well. This collaborative shoot was inspired not only by the name of her company but by the very passion and fanciful quirkiness that she brings to her baked goods. With models, props, open minds and a bunch of cookies, we set out to make a collection of images that blends both the immediate stereotypes of the word “cult” with the whit and whimsy of a company and leader who does not lack humor in their image. You can say she is mad about cookies and let me tell you, she will make you mad as well. Her baking prowess and image that she has created has made her one to watch in Charlotte and the Carolinas.
